  1. Take 1 cup split Bengal gram
  2. You need 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  3. Provide 2 tbsp ghee
  4. Use 1 tsp sugar
  5. You need 1 tsp cumin seeds
  6. You need 2 dry red chilies
  7. Use 1 bay leaf
  8. Provide 2 green cardamoms
  9. Prepare 3 cloves
  10. Use 2-3 small stick cinnamon
  11. Get 8-10 kismis
  12. Take 8-10 coconut slices
  13. Use 2-3 green chillies
  14. Provide 1 tbsp ginger (finely chopped/ grated)
  15. Get Pinch asafoetida
  16. Take to taste Salt
Steps to make Cholar Dal:
  1. Wash & soak dal for one hour.
  2. Then add salt, turmeric powder, and more water. Approximately ratio 1:3 i.e. one cup dal, 3 cup water.
  3. Pressure cook until the dal is cooked, take care that it should not over cook to mushy.
  4. Now in a pan, heat ghee and fry coconut slices till it become light brown. Remove them. In same pan prepare tempering. Add cumin seeds & asafoetida. Once cumin seeds splutters, add all whole spices, saute gor while then add green chillies & ginger and cook for a while.
  5. Now add this tempering to the cooked dal, add sugar, kismis & fried coconut slices.
  6. Cook for 5-7 minutes on a slow flame so all the flavours & aroma of tempering infused in dal.
  7. Serve hot with luchi, paratha, or steamed rice.
